Hundeluft is a district of the city Coswig (Anhalt) in Wittenberg district in Saxony- Anhalt, Germany.

History

In the year 1280 was the first documentary mention when the castle Hundeluft of John II was captured. 1307 took place then the first mentioned as a village with a manor.

In 1626 the plague raged in Hundeluft and neighboring villages. Likewise, there was coverage for robbery, looting and arson as an effect of the Thirty Years' War. 1687 was a further division of the property of the family of Zerbst, so that only dogs air, Bräsen and Ragösen remained to Hundeluft. 1735 Hundeluft was sold together with accessories to Prince Johann August von Anhalt- Zerbst. 1742-46 was the baroque church.

On 1 July 2007, the municipality Hundeluft was incorporated in the district of Wittenberg as a result of the district reform of the former district of Anhalt -Zerbst. The independence of dogs Luft ended on 1 July 2009 with the annexation to Coswig (Anhalt). Up to this point Hundeluft was a separate municipality.

The last mayor of the municipality was Rolf Petrasch.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on 18 March 1993 by the regional council of Dessau and registered in the State Archives Magdeburg under the Wappenrolle Issue 3/ 1993.

The place name Hundeluft is trying to explain different in the various available sources. None among the explanations is clearly provable. In order to avoid a dispute amongst the supporters of different names interpretations, the community has resorted to a canting arms. Thus, the current dog stands for the place name Hundeluft. A uniqueness of the emblem shall be created by the three roses from the family coat of arms of the noblemen to Zerbst. Their domination in Hundeluft over three centuries is historically proven. The colors Anhalt are deliberately chosen to illustrate the territorial terms of the crest.

Attractions

  • There is a water mill, which was probably built in the 13th century at the Rossel. She was decommissioned in 1976. Since a short time a mill club strives for their restoration.
  • Altes Backhaus.
  • Catholic Church of the Assumption (built 1951-52 ).

Economy and infrastructure

In Hundeluft there was one of the 25 forest districts of Saxony- Anhalt. In the 18th and 19th century the place had meaning, inter alia, by a paper mill, a smithy and other workshops.
