Roßwein–Niederwiesa railway

The railway line Roßwein - Niederwiesa is a branch line in Saxony. It runs from Roßwein by the Striegistal about Hainichen and Frankenberg Niederwiesa where the track ends with the confluence in the route of the main line Dresden- Werdau. Since 2004 is still only the 16.8 km long section between Niederwiesa and Hainichen in operation.

History

In the spring of 1867 construction began on the railway line between Niederwiesa and Hainichen. On March 1, 1869, the railway line as a branch of the main track between Chemnitz and Dresden by the Royal was. Saxon State Railways opened. Initially only wrong about two to three trains daily.

The 1872 Heinichen- Rossweiner Railway Company opened on August 15, 1874, 17 km long new line of Hainichen after Roßwein on the railway line Borsdorf - Coswig the Leipzig Dresden Railway Company. Located in the Harras Harras rock tunnel between Brown and Frankenberg village was known by a serious railway accident on 14 December 1913. On 11 July 2001, the Federal Railway Authority approved the closure of the section Heinichen- Rosswein, which was completed on 30 September 2001. In August 2002, it came to the most severe flood in Saxony, completely destroyed in consequence of bridges along this section of the flowing there Striegis and route parts were washed away, a reconstruction and a possible reopening of the route was thus finally no longer in question.

In October 2002, the Regio Infra Service Saxony (RIS ) leased the total distance. The section Niederwiesa - Hainichen was reopened after several years of renovation on December 11, 2004 by Chemnitz City Railway; as part of the redevelopment of the old breakpoint Frankenberg (Sachs ) South was abandoned and about 800 meters towards the city center, in the residential area "On the Wind " is replaced by a newly constructed breakpoint same name.
