Roswitha Beier

Roswitha Beier ( born December 22, 1956 in Riesa, after marriage Roswitha Sunday) is a former swimming athlete from East Germany, which in 1972 won two Olympic silver medals.

Life

Roswitha Beier began as her later rival Rosemarie Kother at SG Dynamo Luckenwalde, both later switched to the SC Dynamo Berlin. Even with eleven years won Roswitha Beier at the Spartakiade on the 200 - meter freestyle track. After her move to the butterfly route they moved within a very short time into the world class. At the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 they improved the DDR record for the 100 meters butterfly on 1:03,61 minutes and won the silver medal behind the Japanese Mayumi Aoki. With the medley relay in the cast Christine Herbst, Renate Vogel, Roswitha Beier and Kornelia Ender, she won her second silver medal, this time behind the U.S. women. In the GDR Championship 1973 Beier won on the short distance before Rosemarie Kother butterfly, the 200m she succumbed to her team mate. In the swimming world championships 1973, at over 100 meters final and Kother. Beier started only about 200 meters butterfly and won the silver medal behind Rosemarie Kother. After Roswitha Beier 1974 failed to qualify for the European Championships, she finished her career.

Later she was employed as a graduate China scientist at the German Foreign Trade Bank in Berlin.
