Rot-Weiß Lüdenscheid

Red-White Lüdenscheid ( RWL ) is the largest football club in Lüdenscheid. The game is played in the stadium built in 1972 Nattenberg southwest of the city.

History

The origins of the club go to the Lüdenscheider Football Club 08, which was founded in 1908, back. RWL was formed in 1971 through the merger of " sports fans 08 " and " RSV Hoh ". As a member of the Association for RSV Hoh league a good foundation for the big-club RWL was given. The most successful years the club was followed by 1977-1981, in which he played in the second division North. After the merger of the national leagues north and south and the associated reduction from 40 to 20 clubs RWL rose from the newly founded Oberliga Westfalen. The DFB Cup competition reached the Lüdenscheider ten times, including three times in the second main round (1974 /75 1982/83 1983 /84). In the following years the Lüdenscheider won twice the Westphalia Cup. In the 2008 /09 national league season RW Lüdenscheid rose from eight grades in the district league.
