1983–84 DFB-Pokal

DFB Cup winner in 1984 was the FC Bayern Munich. For the first time a final was decided by a penalty shoot-out this year. It plays for Borussia Mönchengladbach Lothar Matthäus scored his penalty kick over the crossbar. Since Matthew's transfer to FC Bayern had already been decided, the miss was a certain poignancy. However, according to him, fired two more shooters. The final was played on May 31, 1984 in Frankfurt.

The first semi-final between Borussia Moenchengladbach and Werder Bremen was characterized by repeatedly changing guides. The Bremer turned a 1:3 residue within six minutes to 82 minutes by Uwe Reinders in a 4:3 lead, but had to accept the re- balancing by Hans -Jörg Criens in stoppage time and lost the game even with 4:5 after extra time. In the semi final between Bayern and Schalke 04 scored Olaf Thon, a day before the game turned 18 years old, three goals for the " squire " at 6:6 after extra time.

Holders 1 FC Cologne had failed in the second round at Hannover 96.

In their subsequent participation in the last European Cup winners Bayern dropped out in the semifinals against eventual Cup winners Everton.
