Roter Kocher

The origin of the Red cooker (oil pond )

Template: Infobox River / Obsolete

The Red Kettle is the smallest source stream of the digester in Oberkochen in Ostalb. It is 150 m long and now fully plumbed.

Course

The Red Kettle springs from the limestone of the Lower Felsenkalk formation in the Jurassic of the Swabian Alb. His karstic springs are located in Oberkochen oil pond in a park, which is now privately owned. Several deep and lateral springs feed the lake. Hydropower was by damming the source stream early for a brickyard, and for a oil - and used grinding mill. The park with valuable trees forms an interesting habitat for plants and animals. Where did the name Red Kettle comes is unclear, but it could be related to the former sword - grinding on the oil pond and its rusty waste. Under a small bridge near the park it flows into the Black Kettle.
