Royal Bank Cup

The Royal Bank Cup is an ice hockey trophy, which was first awarded annually since 1996 to the winner of the Canadian Junior Hockey League ( CJHL ). The CJHL is that of the Canadian Hockey League standing, second highest Canadian junior league.

The trophy is currently receiving the team as a national winner between the winners of the Fred Page Cup ( champions of the Eastern Conference ), the Dudley Hewitt Cup (Master of the Central Conference), the Anavet Cup ( champions of the Western Conference ), the Doyle Cup ( a host CJHL team champion of the Pacific Conference) and is determined. The master of the four Conferences are previously played in play-offs of the ten members of the CJHL leagues. Between 1971 and 1995 the master instead of the Royal Bank Cup was rewarded with a trophy named Manitoba Centennial Cup.

History

When the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association introduced the league system reformed and two separate junior leagues first and second class in 1970, the Manitoba Centennial Cup donated the Manitoba Amateur Hockey Association to commemorate their 100th anniversary for the winner of the new second highest junior league, as the existing Memorial Cup is awarded to date exclusively to the winner of the higher Canadian Hockey League.

First winners of the new trophy were the Red Deer Rustlers of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, the Charlottetown Islanders defeated from the Iceland Junior Hockey League in the final. 1995, which is also derived from the AJHL Calgary Canucks the last winner of the short Centennial Cup -called Cup, which prevailed against the Gloucester Rangers of the CJHL.

The Manitoba Centennial Cup replacing Royal Bank Cup was first presented in May 1996 in Melford in the province of Saskatchewan. Each second-rate Canadian junior league sent its regional champion in the race in order to qualify for participation in the Royal Bank Cup tournament. The first winner of the trophy were the Vernon Vipers of the British Columbia Hockey League. Since the first tournament host four regional champions and a host team to play for the Cup.
