Royal Bank Plaza

The Royal Bank Plaza is a skyscraper in Toronto, Ontario ( Canada). It is the de facto headquarters of the Royal Bank of Canada. The building shares with the Fairmont Royal York Hotel a building block in the financial district of Toronto, which is surrounded by the Bay Street, Front Street, York Street and Wellington Street.

The Royal Bank of Canada decided in the late 1970s to move its head office from Montreal to Toronto and to construct a new building for this purpose. The Royal Bank Plaza consists of two office towers: the higher the south tower ( 180m ) and the North Tower ( 112m ). The exterior of the two towers is predominantly covered with glass. Together, the towers are over 14,000 windows. Each window is covered with a coating made of 24 -carat (100%) gold. The gold is used for thermal insulation to save heating and cooling costs.

The Royal Bank Plaza has in addition to the office space, a shopping center, which is connected to the underground PATH system.
