Rožmitál pod Třemšínem

Rožmitál pod Třemšínem ( German Rozmitál, 1939-1945: Rosenthal) is a town of 4,400 inhabitants in the region Středočeský kraj (Czech Republic). It lies on the upper reaches of the Skalice.

History

The settlement of the area was carried out by Slavic tribes in the 6th and 7th centuries. The oldest district of Alt Rosenthal (Latin Antiqua civitas ) already existed in the 10th century. At this time, the first fortress was built, which at that time bore the name of Rosenthal and the Lords of Třemšín (z Třemšína ), named after the mountain, under which housed the city and the castle came, the old Bohemian family of Buzić ( Buzický of Buzić ) from.

The first historically documented ruler was Jetříšek Buzovic, whose coat of arms still adorns the city. Later, the family took the name addition of Rosenthal, used first of that name, was Königsrat Ulrich Lev of Rosental.

The city was given in 1347 by Lev of Rosental Sezim half the Archdiocese of Prague, who held it until 1436. In the 16th century the family Lev of Rosental lost possessions. On July 8, 1623 Rosental was again awarded at the request of the Archbishop of Prague Ernst Adalbert von Harrach the archbishopric, remained in the possession of Rose Valley to 1948.
