Rubén Olivares

Rubén Olivares ( born January 14, 1947 in Mexico City) is a former Mexican boxer.

Professional career

The extreme attack Boxer Olivares began his professional career in 1965 at the bantamweight where he lay a spectacular knockout series and also the Aboriginal Lionel Rose defeated early in 1969 for the WBA and WBC world title. His record was 51-0-1 at the time (49 KOs). In 1970, he first met his compatriot Chucho Castillo, with whom he had always difficulties and with whom he had an intimate enmity. He won the first duel on points, but had to ground. The rematch he lost due to a laceration suffered in the fight over the left eye, the decisive battle in 1971 was similar to the first fight.

In the same year he won against Jesus Pimentel by TKO after Pimentel's trainer threw in the towel in the eleventh round. In 1972, he lost but two times against his compatriot Rafael Herrera by knockout and on points, he had weight problems.

There were no half- featherweight, so he boxed at featherweight, where his impact was not as extreme, his chin vulnerable. Nevertheless, he beat the undefeated Bobby Chacon by knockout, boxed with 1-1 type Hafey 1974 and won the vacant WBA featherweight title. In the same year he went to fight against Alexis Argüello balanced knockout.

He won the WBC title in 1975 against Chacon, but lost it against the Ghanaians David Kotey and was knocked out by Danny Lopez. He won some battles in 1976 but lost in 1977 against Jose Cervantes and his old enemy Chacon. Thus his career was almost ended. The southpaw Jose Luis Ramirez ( 43-1 Record ) he defeated early and got in 1979 still a World Cup chance, but again went against Eusebio Pedroza KO.

Others

There is a regular subject of popular debate, who was the " bigger" or more powerful Bantamgewichtler, Olivares and his compatriot Carlos Zárate. The left hook both are legendary, the Ring Magazine rated him bantamweight at number three behind Zárate and Eder Jofre, but before Zárate in terms of overall career.

1991 found Olivares induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
