Ruben Smith

Ruben Smith ( born April 15, 1987 in Stavanger ) is a Norwegian professional ice hockey goaltender who stands in January 2011 at the Stavanger Oilers in the Norwegian GET - ligaen under contract.

Career

Smith began his career at Viking / Siddis in his hometown and joined the youth ranks of Storhamar IK later. During the season 2005 /06 he made his debut in the GET ligaen for the men's team of the Association, the Storhamar Dragons. Since then, he joined the squad of Dragons and since 2007 has been the first-choice goalkeeper. In 2008 he was with Storhamar Norwegian Champion and was also named playoff MVP.

In the summer of 2009, his contract ran out and Ruben Smith opted for a commitment in Finland in Joensuu Jokijopat in the subprime Mestis, but the transfer did not materialize. Therefore, Smith stayed with the Storhamar Dragons. For the season 2010/11 he finally signed for Rosenborg Ishockeyklubb. This he left in January 2011 and moved within the GET ligaen to the Stavanger Oilers, with whom he was in the playoffs runner-up.

Internationally

Ruben Smith played in several international tournaments for junior national teams of Norway. He took part in the U20 Junior World Cup 2006 Junior and U20 -B World Cup 2007.

In 2008 he was nominated for the Men's World Championship, where he played his first World Cup game that was lost with 1:9 against the United States. A year later, he took over as substitute goalkeeper part in the World Men's Championship, but was not used in any game. At the end of 2009, Smith was nominated for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. In these he remained as a substitute goalkeeper without use. In the 2010 World Cup he stood at two games between the posts, but could not convince with a catch rate of 69.7 %.
