Rudi Ball

Rudolf " Rudi " Ball ( born March 27, 1910 in Berlin, † September 1975 in Johannesburg, South Africa ) was a German ice hockey player ( striker ) and is a member of the IIHF Hall of Fame and the Hockey Hall of Fame Germany.

His career lasted 24 years, from 1928 until 1952. He played for the Berlin SC from 1928 to 1933 and from 1936 to 1944, the EHC St. Moritz 1933/34, Diavoli Rossi Neri 1934-1936, EC Eichkamp Berlin from 1946 to 1948, Tiger IHC 1949/50, and Wolves IHC 1950 /51. In the period before the Second World War, he was one of the most popular and best ice hockey players in Europe. Throughout his career, he scored over 500 goals.

Between 1929 and 1938 he played 49 times for the German national ice hockey team and scored 19 goals. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1936 he was the only German participants of Jewish descent. Was also at the Summer Games of the same year in Berlin with the fencer Helene Mayer, a participant of Jewish descent in the German Olympic team.

In 1948 he moved to Johannesburg ( South Africa). His brothers Gerhard Heinz ball and ball were also hockey players.
