Rudolf Dietsch

Heinrich Rudolf Dietsch ( born March 16, 1814 Mylau (Vogtland), † December 29, 1875 in Stötteritz ) was a German philologist, historian and educator.

Life

Dietzsch lost his father, who was director of a factory in Mylau, at the age of four years. In embattled financial situation his mother moved to Reichenbach, where Dietzsch attended school. In 1824 he went to high school in Zeitz 1832 and began a study of ancient classical philology at the University of Leipzig. At that time, Johann Gottfried Jakob Hermann characterize his art teacher. In addition, the lectures on Greek and Roman antiquities at Ernst Gottfried Wilhelm Wachsmuth and lectures on Athenian constitutional history and the history of ancient rhetoric with Anton Westermann attended. Already Easter 1836 he was an assistant teacher at the grammar school of the orphanage in Halle and the beginning of 1837 he became a teacher at the high school in Hildburghausen. After Dietzsch had in 1840 received his doctorate in Leipzig as a doctor of philosophy, he was the ninth head teacher at the Saxon School St. Augustine appointed on 20 May 1840 in Grimsby, which task he took over on 10 August of the year. After he had taken this office on August 10 of that year, he went in 1842 to the seventh head teacher, in 1846 Professor sixth, fifth in 1850 and 1860 fourth professor. On 8 October 1861, he became director of the school and the associated secondary school in Plauen and on May 28, 1866 Rector and the first professor in Grimsby. Of his philological services are the outputs from Eutropius ( historian ), Herodotus, Cicero's selected letters, Cornelius Nepos no particular value; important are those of Sallust ( Leipz. 1843-46, 2 vols; review new 1859 text edition, 4th edition 1874; Catiline with notes, 1864). On May 23, 1839 Dietzsch married to Bianca, the daughter of the Leipzig publisher Benedikt Gotthelf Teubner.
