The monastery of Rueda (Real Monasterio de Nuestra Señora de Rueda ) is a former Cistercian abbey in the town of Sástago in the Spanish province of Zaragoza in the autonomous region of Aragon, 74 km southeast of Zaragoza on the left bank of the Ebro.

History

The monastery was founded in 1202 after headed since 1162 larger land endowments by the Aragonese royal house were ( including 1175 and 1182 in and in Escatrón ) built as a daughter house of the monastery Gimont in France from the filiation of primary Abbey Mori Moon after founding attempts since 1152, first in Nuestra Señora de salt were north of Zaragoza and preceded 1167 Nuestra Señora de la Junceria in Villanueva de Gallego on the Rio Gallego. In the monastery cancellation ( disentailment ) under the government of Juan Álvarez Mendizábal the monastery was probably disbanded in 1837. The facility served in succession agricultural purposes. In 1990, the agricultural part was acquired by the Aragón region in 1998, leaving the Spanish state and church retreat in the region of the obligation to restore the system. The meticulous restoration was completed in 2003. Today is housed in the connecting wing between exam and abbot's house and the abbot's house a hotel ( Hospedería de Aragón ).

Buildings and plant

The church is a typical three-nave church Cistercian without transept and three apses perpendicular closed. In the round stucco mesh windows one wheel ( rueda ) is shown. The Gothic cross-ribbed vault dates from a later period, like the tower in the Mudejar style. The exam includes south of the church, received a late-Gothic cloister with an octagonal fountain chapel, the East Wing with the neunjöchigen chapter house, the little parlatorium, a detention room and also sechsjochigen monk hall, the south wing with heat room, refectory and kitchen and the largely renewed dormitory on the top floor of the East Wing and the somewhat aloof memory ( cilla ). During the Renaissance, an arcade in the Herrera style was built, connecting the monastery with the abbot's house. The Royal Gate ( Puerta Real) was built in the 18th century.

The oldest part of the cloister, the Ostgalerie, dates from the 13th century, the other galleries from the 14th and 15th centuries.

An alabaster altar has entered the parish church of Escatrón.
