Rufus Bousquet

Rufus George Bousquet is a politician from Saint Lucia.

Biography

Bousquet is a member of which was founded by John Compton 1964 United Workers Party ( UWP ). In 1995, he served as Minister of State with responsibility for financial investments and the National Development Corporation (NDC ) Member of the government of Prime Minister Compton, but was dismissed in May 1995 after allegations of theft and enrichment.

Later he took his political activities again and ran the Party Congress of the UWP in September 2000 for leadership positions within the party.

As a candidate of the UWP, he was elected in the elections of 11 December 2006 as a member of Parliament, where he represents the constituency of Choiseul / Saltibus.

After defeating the UWP in the parliamentary elections on 11 December 2006, he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister for International Investment, Information and Broadcasting Minister of Compton on December 19, 2006. By illness Compton 's Acting Prime Minister Stephenson King took on 6 June 2007 even the Foreign Minister. Reason for the dismissal was the controversial establishment of diplomatic relations with Taiwan.

In a cabinet reshuffle, he was brought back on June 6, 2008 by Prime Minister King to the Minister of Industry, Trade, Investment and Consumer Affairs into the cabinet. The opposition Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) under Kenneth Anthony were troubled about the re-appointment and pointed in a press statement also referred to the theft and enrichment allegations in the early 1990s.

As part of a new cabinet reshuffle Prime Minister King handed over on 30 January 2009, the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs again Bousquet. He is also the Minister of foreign trade and investment.

To his election as "Man of the Year" in 2008 by the St. Lucia Star newspaper there were different opinions among the population.
