Lines on the court

Center line

The center line divides the court into two halves. It has at each point on the same distance from the ends of the field and normal to the side registration lines. The ankickende team refers to it at the beginning of the game position.

10 -meter line

The 10 -meter line bears her name because she is 10 m away from the center line. In the game, there are two 10 - m-line, before and after the center line. At the kick-off is the defending team at her. The 10 -meter line is usually a short dash, not a solid line.

22 -meter line

The 22 -meter line is so called because it is 22 m away from the board end. According to her, the area between it and the Mallinien is often also called " the 22" called. The 22 - meter line is a continuous line parallel to the centerline line. From the 22 -meter line, there are two pieces on the playing field, in each half of the pitch one.

5 -meter line

5 m in front of the game box ends are six irregular, parallel to the center line stripes. This forms the 5 - m- lines. On the pitch there are two of them.

Endauslinie

The rear Auslinien the Malfelder be called Endauslinien. They are like all Auslinien solid lines.

Aim of the game

The aim of the game is to score more points than the opposing team. There are basically three options:

  • You can carry over the ball at the opponent's defense in the opponent's in-goal and place it on the ground. The mere dropping of the ball yields no points. One such (even so-called ) test ( english try ) is one of five points. Subsequently, the team that has laid the trial, the chance to achieve an increase (English conversion) of a further two points. This attempts to kick the ball by a kick from the bottom of any point on an imaginary line to the point at which the test was placed between the two longitudinal slats of the H-shaped post over the crossbar.
  • Similarly, one can kick a penalty "on the rods set ," which brings three points after a serious rule violation.
  • From the open play also a technically difficult to be executed drop- kick by the rods is possible, which is also worth three points.

Scoring

Here a distinction is made between

  • Game points: in a game. Their number will depend in each case on the way they are obtained.
  • Table points: for a game. If a competition is not discharged in KO mode, count recovered, indecisive and lost games in different ways.

Game points

At the creation of the English Rugby Football Union ( RFU) in 1871 only the Goals were, like football, counted, so the successful footsteps through the times Tangen. Only when here there was a tie, gave the number of attempts the rash. From 1875 Goal was offset by three experiments. 1887 the first point system was on this basis and also modified several times by the IRB since 1890. Over the years, the point value changed in Rugby Union as follows:

Try: Try Con (version): Increase, Pen ( alty ): Penalty Kick, DG = Dropped goal: jump kick, GM = Goal from a mark: free kick, x: 3 touchdowns = 1 try, 3 tries = 1 goal.

The latest amendments were in 1977 the abolition of the possibility to achieve a free kick points, and 1992, the appreciation of the experiment to 5 points, so that an increased effort (= 7 ) is no longer by two penalty kicks ( = 6) can be compensated.

Length of the game

A rugby union match lasts twice 40 minutes ( with continuous clock, with many top games - eg internationals - now also with stopped clock in injury-related breaks). In youth games shorter seasons are common. The break between the two periods is ten minutes.

Game History

Each team of 15 players tried the oval ball ( of the shape of an elongated ellipsoid of revolution has ) to contribute to the opponent's in-goal and drop it there. Here, the ball must never be thrown forward. More space can therefore only be achieved by running with the ball and kicking the ball. Handballs are usually carried out at an angle to achieve a free running position.

Defense

The defender tries while to stop the attack by Tackling ( low retention) or the ball -bearing player pushing away and win the ball. Actions above shoulder height are not allowed in rugby union, just as it is forbidden to stop the enemy by means other than the low holding or pressing.

Game interruptions

After the game, there are interruptions in the extremely dynamic game two standard situations:

The crowd (English scrum ), in which the striker of the teams bent and hooked into each other to survive and try to conquer the outside, sideways rolled ball by pressing forward, and the alley (English line-out ), in which the ball is thrown from the touchline. The players of the two teams will face each other and form an alley into which the ball must be thrown. The objection must be made in a straight line and must be in the middle of the two teams are thus thrown into the alley. The objection may, however, vary in length and height. Now both teams are trying to put the ball in their possession, by raising one of her teammates in the air to support the catching of the ball.

Variants of Rugby Union
