Rugenbräu

Rugenbräu is a beer brewery in Matten bei Interlaken, Canton Bern, Switzerland.

Its origins go back to a brewery distillery, which in 1866 built the Grand Council Christian Indermühle from gravels on the mat of the inn Gasthaus Hotel Interlaken. After his death, they took his sons Carl and Albert and created in 1875 for the storage of beer in the basement rocks Rugen, a mountain near Interlaken.

In 1880 she had to sell the brewery, and using the Bernese Cantonal it was converted into a public limited company. Their properties were acquired in 1892 by the Bavarian brewmaster Joseph Hofweber, who had already bought two years before the brewery in Reichenbach Castle at Zollikofen. 1895 production was completely relocated to a built above the cellar vaults in the Grand Rugen Brau Haus, and the Bavarian brewery in Interlaken was shut down.

The company was called now Hofweber J. jr. AG, had its head office in Interlaken and a branch in Reichenbach. In 1920, she was fused with a second brewery on the Bödeli to the brewery operating company Hofweber & Horn, which is from 1935 collective society Hofweber J. jr. AG and Gebr horn and called 1968 a stock company Rugenbräu AG.

In 1971 the brewery in Reichenbach castle was closed. Since 1988, its space will, however, re- used as a depot for the region of Bern. Even today, the Rugenbräu AG is owned by the family. Since March 2008, the brewery is also two own limited bottlings on the market.
