Rundfunkplatz

The Broadcasting Place is a place in the western area of the city center of the Bavarian capital Munich.

The site is located in the district Maxvorstadt south of Mars Street, east of the confluence of the Hopfenstraße. The terrain is the northwest corner of the so-called Maffei Angers, one of Mars Street to the north, Seidlstraße in the east, Arnulf Street in the south and the east Hopfenstraße limited square, which was used until the late 19th century as urban camp.

In 1902 the Bavarian state the grounds to establish a central post office building which previously housed separately departments here. The following year, the plan was involved in a building project for the newly formed Department of Transportation. Carl Hochneder created 1905-1913 a handsome multi-wing building complex with a central domed hall, which should set the reserve of Bavaria right on your own web and mail in the German Empire in demonstrative scene.

Before its northern front south remained Marsstraße a free space left. He received in 1929 the name Rundfunkplatz after the establishment of the Munich Radio Centre. After long neglect it was designed horticultural new around 2002.
