Ruprecht Machleidt

Ruprecht Machleidt ( born December 18, 1943 in Kiel ) is a German -born theoretical nuclear physicist.

Machleidt studied physics at the University of Bonn with a diploma in 1971 and his doctorate in 1973. As a post-doctoral researcher he studied until 1975 at the University of Bonn and was 1976/77 at the State University of New York at Stony Brook ( SUNY ). 1978 to 1983 he was a research assistant in Bonn. 1983 to 1985 he was a visiting scientist at TRIUMF and the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and from 1986 to 1988 at the Los Alamos National Laboratory ( at LAMPF ), where he was an Adjunct Associate Professor at UCLA at the same time. In 1988 he became associate professor in 1991 and professor at the University of Idaho.

He is known as one of the developers of the Bonn potential for the description of nucleon-nucleon interaction on Mesonenaustauschbasis. Next he dealt with nuclear matter, taking into account relativistic effects and Mesonenfreiheitsgraden and relativistic few- particle systems of nuclear physics.
