David Russell Johnston, Baron Russell - Johnston of Minginish, PC ( born July 28, 1932 † 27 July 2008) was a Scottish politician ( Liberal Democrat ).
Life and work
Russell - Johnston was from 1964 to 1983 Member of the House of Commons for Inverness and 1983-1997 for Inverness, Nairn and Lochaber. From 1970 to 1974 he was Chairman of the Liberal Party of Scotland and " Leader" by 1974 until 1988. 1988 to 1992 he was "Deputy Leader" in the Liberal Democrats. From 1999 to 2002 he was President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. He was raised in 1997 to Life Peer.
Johnston married in 1967 Joan Graham Menzies. They have three sons.
