Russian Airborne Troops

The Russian Airborne Troops or WDW ( Wosduschno - dessantnyje woiska Russian: Воздушно - десантные войска = ВДВ, English VDV ) are an independent strike force in the Russian armed forces.

It includes major formations that can be used both by means of parachute jump and shedding or by helicopter (air assault tactics ).

Use

There are a number of independent airborne brigades and airborne divisions. This feature shedding and air transportable armored personnel carriers, mortars, artillery and air defense systems. They are battle- strong major units that can in the back of the opponent are used surprisingly to excavate enemy leadership centers and telecommunications resources in the tactical mission or destroy nuclear weapons and delivery system to take important ports or other traffic control points in operational use or the breakthrough own mechanized forces in the attack on support and protect these behind the enemy lines. The artillery regiments are divided air- transportable and mixed in the sense of combat support troops with antitank, antiaircraft, grenade launcher and pioneer components. The associations are partially mechanized with BMD -1 BMD -2, some with UAZ- wheeled vehicles (similar to the " Humvee " of the U.S. armed forces) motorized.

Self-employed air assault brigades

The air assault brigades ( LST) essentially consist of two LST battalions and a parachute battalion and one "heavy" combat support battalion ( anti-tank, anti-aircraft, mortars and pioneering forces). In addition, a company Spetsnaz, Stabs-/Nachrichten-/Fernaufklärungs-/Sanitäts-Personal and one train pioneer and combat divers.

The LST- brigades are structured that they can grow up in the event of mobilization to an airborne division and therefore have in their battalions also have a higher level of officers, NCOs and soldiers time than comparable LL battalions of airborne regiments.

The 45th Reg CUA is equipped only with light weapons and vehicles met backup tasks. It is considered a single fighter regiment. Although it is full fallschirmsprung capable only helicopter operations are almost practiced.

At the 242 and 301 officers' school teaching departments have been newly furnished with two companies for mines and combat divers and one each teaching department for military medical - psychological personnel.

The officer schools can mobilize in case each one airborne division, but without combat support regiment, and a configurational mobile brigade grow up with " heavy " battalion.

In Ulyanovsk Ulyanovsk there is the Garden Suvorov Military School where the boys of the 5-11 class learn. This school is the only one in Russia, which is headed by the airborne troops.
