Ruth Currier

Ruth Currier ( born January 4, 1926 in Ashland, Ohio; † 4, 2011 in Brooklyn, New York) was an American dancer, choreographer and dance teacher.

After studying with José Limón and Doris Humphrey Currier in 1949 a member of the José Limón Dance Company. As a solo dancer she remained for two decades in this ensemble. After the death of Limón Dance Director in 1972, she took over as director of the management of the dance company until 1978. During this time she expanded the repertoire to include more choreography and pieces.

After her retirement in 1978, she was dedicated to the Limón Institute and their own Ruth Currier Dance Studio. She also taught at numerous international institutions.

Currier was divorced childless.
