Ruth R. Benerito

Ruth Mary Benerito ( born January 12, 1916, in New Orleans as Ruth Mary Rogan, † October 5, 2013 in Metairie, Louisiana ) was an American chemist.

Life

Benerito began at the age of 15 years to study chemistry at the H. Sophie Newcomb Memorial College, the women's college of Tulane University ( B.Sc. 1935). After a period of study at Bryn Mawr College, she returned to New Orleans and earned at Tulane University in 1938 and a master's degree. In 1948 she received his doctorate from the University of Chicago finally to the Ph.D.

After she had taught at various institutions, it was 1953 Associate of the Research Center of the Ministry of Agriculture of the United States ( USDA) in New Orleans. Here she dedicated to the advancement of fat emulsions for intravenous nutrition. In 1958 she took over the management of the USDA research laboratory for cotton and cotton products. Your published in the next few years working for the crosslinking of cellulose polymers proved to be groundbreaking for the development of wrinkle- resistant cotton fabric.
