Ruth Winch

Ruth Isabel Winch ( born August 25, 1870 in Ryde, Isle of Wight as Ruth Pennington - Legh, † January 9, 1952 in Beaumaris, Angelesey ) was an English tennis player.

Life

Winch came in 1870 in Ryde on the Isle of Wight to the world. In 1899 she married I. G. Winch. In the same year she appeared for the first time at the Wimbledon Championships on, but was beaten in the second round Bertha Steedman. 1904 and 1919, she was able to reach the quarter-finals there. Most recently, she appeared in the 1924 Single of the tournament of Wimbledon.

At the Olympic Games in London in 1908 Winch won the bronze medal in the individual on turf.

She died in 1952 at the age of 81 years on the Welsh island Angelesey.
