Ryan Jones

As of October 24, 2009 National October 12, 2011

Ryan Paul Jones ( born March 13, 1981 in Newport ) is a Welsh rugby union player who is used as a winger or number eight. He is captain of the Welsh national team and for the Ospreys active.

Jones did not start until 17 with the rugby, before he was active as a goalkeeper in soccer. He spent his first professional season with the Celtic Warriors, which dissolved after this season, however. Thereupon he moved to the Ospreys with whom he won the same title in the Celtic League in his first season.

In the same season Jones received his first cap for Wales against South Africa. He was part of the selection team that could get the Grand Slam in the Six Nations 2005. This success could the Welsh, with Jones as captain, repeat 2008. Based on this performance he was nominated for Player of the Year by the International Rugby Board. His team-mate Shane Williams won the election.

In 2005 he was part of the tour of the British and Irish Lions. However, he only joined the squad as Simon Taylor injured. His non- nomination for the 2009 tour of the Lions to South Africa is regarded as a big surprise, since he was able to celebrate many successes as captain of the Welsh and the Ospreys in the past. However, its shape fluctuations ahead of the nominations led the coaching staff to not immediately take him into the ranks of the Lions. He moved in the course of the tour still in the squad after Stephen Ferris had hurt. After only one day he had to leave, because with him a concussion was found.
