Ryan White

Ryan Wayne White (December 6, 1971 in Kokomo, Indiana, USA, † April 8, 1990 in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA) was an American activist against AIDS.

Life

Ryan White was the elder of two children of Wayne and Jeanne White. His sister is two years younger than he.

He suffered from hemophilia and required permanent blood infusions. 1985 - at the age of 13 years - he was diagnosed with AIDS. He had probably been infected with one of his daily injections.

His case made ​​in the United States for attention and outrage, since it excluded the management of his school, after learning of Ryan's illness from school. He and his family complained to court and got right: Ryan was allowed to visit the school.

His courage and determination meant that he was between 1985 and 1989 one of the best-known advocate HIV patients. He met not only with U.S. President George HW Bush, but was also known with celebrities such as Elizabeth Taylor, Elton John and Phil Donahue. Michael Jackson honored him with the song " Gone Too Soon".

On April 8, 1990 Ryan died of the disease.
