S. C. H. "Sammy" Davis

Sydney Charles Houghton " Sammy" Davis ( born January 9, 1887 in London, † January 9, 1981 in Guildford ) was a British motorsport journalist and racing driver.

Sammy Davis, who was known in the UK mainly through its publications to a wider public, was also an outstanding racer. As a member of the legendary Bentley Boys, he came in the 1920s to some victories. His greatest successes he achieved at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. As early as 1925, during his first appearance at La Sarthe, he managed with his French partner Jean Chassagne on a Sunbeam Sport Le Mans second overall. Two years later, even as a member of the Bentley factory team, he secured together with Dudley Benjafield the overall victory. Davis drove a total of six times at Le Mans. The two podium finishes came in 1928 still a ninth and 1933, in his last appearance, a seventh place in the overall standings.

Davis was one of the founding members of the Vintage Car Club of Great Britain and in 1935 elected club vice chairman of the Aston Martin Owner.

His son Colin Davis was also a racing driver.
