The Saalbach is a creek in the southern city of Wuppertal. It feeds as a main tributary Ronsdorfer dam.

Course

The creek rises in the west of the district Ronsdorf only a few meters south of the local situation Holthausen below the designated corridor for her in the hall Scheid; another source is located west of Erich Fried comprehensive school.

After only a few hundred meters of Saalbach flows into the Ronsdorf dam. The dam is therefore also called Saalbach dam. Below the dam flows through the creek some storage ponds that have been created for the use of water power of the now defunct grinding cotta and iron works. In the restaurant of the house Zillertal Saalbach opens into the Gelpe.

Location and topography

The Saalbach is located southeast of the city of Wuppertal and rises at an altitude of 295 meters above sea level. After a length of about 2450 meters, the stream flows at an altitude of 182 meters in the Gelpe. It forms the lower reaches since 1929, the city limits of Wuppertal to Remscheid. Previously, he fulfilled this function between the formerly independent towns Ronsdorf and Lüttringhausen.

Art Buildings and History

The most important building is the art built in the years 1898 to 1899 for drinking water Ronsdorf dam. In the lower reaches of the creek were some metal-processing operations, of which, however, usually only the storage ponds are present. The best known of them at the confluence with the Gelpe called " dog scoop ". More were the Horde Bach hammer Roodenkotten and the man hammer.

The 1980 inaugurated industrial history trail in Gelpe -Saalbach- area, also called " Historical Gelpetal ," on the individual panels historical sites and their function.

Natural Monument

The source of the hall creek is protected as a natural monument.
