Saar-Nahe Hills
The Saar -Nahe - Bergland (also: Saar-Nahe - mountain and hill country ) is a natural spatial Greater Region 3rd order (main unit group ) in Rhineland -Palatinate and Saarland. This an area of 4185 km ² (plus Sobernheimer valley widening ) comprehensive mountain and hill country extends from Saarbrücken, Kaiserslautern and the Palatinate Forest in the south to the Hunsrück in the northeast and consist of small portions of the middle Saar in the West, especially the catchment area of the River Nahe and Bad Kreuznach.
Location and boundaries
The Saar -Nahe - Bergland extends between the Hunsrück mountains in the north- northwest, the Lower Nahe region in the north and the Alzeyer hills to the east-northeast ( north-western edge of the Upper Rhine country ), the Palatinate Forest in the south and the Palatine - Saarland limestone region in west south-west, the latter for T only. onto French soil is achieved.
It covers the river basins of the middle Saar in the southwest over prim assemblies, Glan and Alsenz to the bottom near the northeast.
Largest city in the interior of the scenery is Idar -Oberstein in the north, further from Kusel and St. Wendel centrally in the interior and Birkenfeld near the northeast edge.
Significantly greater Saarbrücken and Kaiserslautern on the southern edge; also Bad Kreuznach on the northern edge has to be mentioned. Kirchheimbolanden lies to the east just beyond.

The main units 190, 191 and 197-199 are all in the Saarland, 195 and 196 all in Rhineland -Palatinate; from the core part of the landscape engaging units 192-194 are only a small margin shares in the southeast in the Saarland and the rest in Rhineland- Palatinate.
The main unit 196 was slammed only subsequently the main unit group, the main units 197-199 were cleaved from the original main units 190 and 191.
Geology
The heartland of the Saar -Nahe - Bergland is the largest contiguous area of distribution ( 2,800 km ²) of permokarbonen layer and volcanic effusions on German soil represents the layers of the Permian and the Permian emphasize to the French border for a distance of over 100 km in the west southwestern direction at 30 km in width.
