Sager House

The Sagersche house (or Sager Palace cal ) is the Strömgatan 18, on the banks of Norrström in the Stockholm district of Norrmalm and since 1995 has been the official residence of the Swedish Prime Minister. Göran Persson was the first user of the service apartment.

History

A building on the property has been known since the forties of the 17th century. After the brothers Sager had acquired the house in 1880, they left in 1893 to establish a representative floor. Here, the building received the imprint of the French Rococo style, which it still has today. The house was located until 1986 owned by the Sager family and was acquired two years later by the Swedish State. The building was extensively renovated and now has the status of a monument.

Environment

In the immediate vicinity are more culturally and historically and architecturally significant buildings: the Swedish Parliament ( Riksdagshuset ) and the Royal Stockholm Palace, the official residence of the Swedish king Carl XVI. Gustaf with which the Sagersche house is connected via the two bridges Norrbro and Riksbron, and on the same street west rose bath, the Swedish seat of the government, and east of the former Erbfürstenpalais ( Arvfurstens palats ), today's State Department, and the Royal Swedish National Opera.
