Sahn

A Sahn (Arabic صحن Sahn, ) referred to in Islamic architecture a courtyard. According to the traditional Islamic architectural style has almost every courtyard mosque a Sahn, which is surrounded on all sides by arcades ( Riwaqs ). In Persian architecture often located be completed within the Sahn a Houz, a balanced pool of water where ritual ablutions ( wudu ' ). Some others include drinking fountains.

The Sahn a mosque is not a religious necessity, therefore, many mosques have no such inner courtyard.
