Said Musa

Said Wilbert Musa ( born March 19, 1944 in San Ignacio ) was between 1998 and 2008 Prime Minister of Belize.

Musa was born in San Ignacio, the fourth son of Hamid and Aurora Musa. These have Palestinian roots. He went to the Saint Andrew's Primary School in San Ignacio and then to high school at St. Michael 's College in Belize City. Later he attended St. John 's College Sixth Form. He then studied law at the University of Manchester in the UK. In 1966 he completed his studies with honors degree. The following year he returned to Belize, where he first worked as a prosecutor and later as a private attorney.

Musa joined the People's United Party (PUP ) in under George Cadle Price, and was elected in 1981 in the first independent National Assembly of Belize. He served between 1981 and 1984 as Advocate General as well as Minister of Economic Development and between 1989 and 1993 as foreign and education ministers. In the first years after independence, he was also a member of the committee that drafted the Constitution of Belize and in the delegation, which dealt with the final determination of the boundaries between Belize and Guatemala. In 1996, Musa took over the party leadership of the PUP and led them in the parliamentary elections of 1998 and 2003 election victories.
