Saigyō

Saigyo (Japanese西行; * 1118 in Kyoto, † 1190 ), actually: Norikiyo Satō (佐藤 义 清), was a Japanese poet.

Life

He grew up in a wealthy home. As the family moved often, he learned large parts of Japan know. He began training as an officer of the imperial guard, broke it in 1140 and became a monk (法师Hoshi ) of the Shingon Buddhist shū. In 1180 he stayed in the province of Ise, where he had many disciples.

Style

Saigyo was thrilled by the beauty of nature, this is also reflected in his works resist. He used many verbs.
