Sail emblem

The emblems are alphanumeric identifiers in the sail ( Large). They are used to distinguish between different classes of boat (see also Category: Sailing boat type), but can also serve a classification by nationality (nationality mark ) or cause the sail number individualization of the particular ship.

According to betting sailing regulations of the International Sailing Federation (ISAF ) have vessels intending to participate in races to lead in the mainsail sail the following characters: nationality code ( for example, GER for Germany ), class insignia and sail number.

In Germany nautical emblems were discussed by the DSV from 1917 and used from 1920.
