Saint-Germain-de-Livet

Saint- Germain -de- Livet is a commune with 787 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Orne in Basse-Normandie region.

Geography

Saint- Germain -de- Livet is located eight kilometers south-west of Lisieux. The municipality is crossed by the river Touques.

History

In the 12th century Beaudoin Tyrel was mentioned as Seigneur of the place in a document. Until the French Revolution (1789-1799) the town was sometimes called after him Livet -le- Beaudoin. 1462 reached the village by marriage into the possession of Tournebu family and sometimes Livet - Tournebu was therefore called.

Castle of Saint- Germain -de- Livet

The castle of Saint- Germain -de- Livet (French Château de Saint- Germain -de- Livet ) is a castle in Saint -Germain -de- Livet. The digging of the water castle is powered by a small tributary of the Touques.

First parts of the castle were asked in March 1924 as a monument historique a historical monument. They were followed in the years 1959, 1963, 1966 and most recently in 2007 other parts of the building were also included in the list of monuments.

The entire palace complex is since 1958 owned by the city of Lisieux and is open for tours. It is a good example of the French nobility architecture at the time of the transition from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance, because the viewer is on the buildings still armed elements such as pitch nose and decorative architectural details already without defensive function.
