Saint Mary's University of Minnesota

Saint Mary's University of Minnesota is a Catholic university in the United States. At the University include a campus in Winona, Minnesota and one each in Minneapolis and Rochester. It belongs to the Institute of the Brothers of Christian Schools.

History

Saint Mary's was founded in 1912 by Bishop Patrick R. Heffron as a college to allow men in the Diocese of Winona a higher education. 1933 took over the De la Salle Brothers, a Catholic religious men, college. From a number of 200 students, the Saint Mary's grew in the following years to a size of 500 students and received the recognition of university bachelor's degree programs through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Since the Second World War, the number has risen steadily to of courses and students. 1969, women were first admitted to study at St. Mary's, later it took over the College of Saint Teresa, a former college for women in Winona. 1995 was renamed the Saint Mary 's College, Saint Mary's University of Minnesota.

Study

Today, the Saint Mary's University offers a variety of bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs. Around 5,400 students are enrolled in it. In addition to the campus in Winona, Minneapolis and Rochester, it offers additional locations in Minnesota and Wisconsin Courses at.

In a ranking of the best universities with master's degrees in the Midwest St. Mary's University was ranked on rank 30.

Sports

Under the name " Cardinals " the Saint Mary's University compete in 21 different sports and is organized in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference ( MIAC ).
