Saint-Pierre-de-Côle

Saint- Pierre -de- Côle, Occitan Sent Peir de Cola, is a commune with 469 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the north- east of the department of Dordogne of the Aquitaine region.

Etymology

Saint- Pierre -de- Côle, Occitan Sent Peir de Cola, derives from Saint Peter ( Sanctus Petrus ), with the name of the river Côle ( Occitan COLA ) as detailed specification.

Geography

Saint- Pierre -de- Côle located 11 kilometers east of Brantome, 11 kilometers west-southwest of Thiviers (air line). The community is surrounded by the following neighboring communities:

  • Saint -Jean -de- Côle in the Northeast.
  • Vaugnac in the east.
  • Lempzours in the southeast.
  • Saint-Front- d'Alemps in the south.
  • La Chapelle- Faucher in the West.
  • Villars in the northwest

Main floodlights is the Côle that easily meandering flows north of the center of Saint- Pierre -de- Côle in southwest direction, but then turns on a westerly course. The Côle has a river sinkhole caused by karst phenomena in the municipality of Saint- Pierre -de- Côle.

The topographically lowest point in the municipality at 119 meters is located on the western border with Trépart; here leaves the Côle the church in the west. The highest point at 237 meters is located on the northeast corner. The absolute difference in altitude is 118 meters.

Geology

The municipality of Saint- Pierre -de- Côle is completely underlain by flat-lying sediments of the northern Aquitaine basin. The upcoming film package of the Mesozoic leads Dogger ( Unterbathon to Mittelbathon ) and Upper Cretaceous ( Coniacian to Ligérien ). The Dogger is at Chez Biard and the Upper Cretaceous layers are transgrediert at Les Piles from the Eocene Sidérolithique - red, ferruginous, sandy mudstones. The altitudes left and right of the Côle are covered by colluvial gravels from the Upper Pleistocene, which have emerged as rearrangement products from overlying gravel tongues with possible Pliocene age (gravel tongues at La Bénéchie and Chef du Clos ). The dry valley of Champlouviers is filled by würmeiszeitlichem Kalkhangschutt. Würmzeitliche low terraces can be found in Côletal. Rezentes alluvium is found in Côletal and in the side of Lempzours.

History

The oldest structure in Saint -Pierre -de- Côle is the Romanesque church of Saint -Pierre- ès- Liens from the 11th century. The Château de Bruzac castle, consisting of an upper and a lower castle, built in the 12th century. In his place was in the 10th century already castle hill. The foundation of the lower castle even remains were found from the Merovingian time. The upper castle was destroyed at the end of the 13th century. The manor Manoir de Ferrieres goes back to the 13th century. The Chapel Chapel of the Ladres in Doumarias (opposite the castle ruins Bruzac ) dates from the 15th century.

The municipality of Saint- Pierre -de- Côle has continuously lost to 1999 population. However, this long-term downward trend seems to have ended now. The population loss was more pronounced than in the rest of the canton Thiviers.

The town of Saint- Pierre -de- Côle is located on the D 78 of Brantome after Thiviers. Here also coming from the north crosses the D 68 from Villars to Sorge. The center leaves a local road to south-east in the direction Lempzours. In Doumarias branches from the D 78 to the right a municipal road that is in a northern branch and a southern direction Thiviers splits towards Vaunac; from the southern branch of Lempzours can also be achieved.
