Sainte-Vaubourg

Sainte- Vaubourg is a commune with 91 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Ardennes department in the Champagne- Ardenne region; it belongs to the district Vouziers and the Canton Attigny.

History

In the 8th and 9th century, the royal palace Attigny was one of the main residences of the Carolingians. It was here in the year 785 the baptism of Widukind and 822 of the public act of repentance of Louis the Pious, the repentance of Attigny instead. 978 the Palatinate Attigny was burnt down after the surprise attack of the West Frankish King Lothar on Aachener royal palace in the backlash of Otto II. Its current name after the place has relics of St. Walburga, with whom King Charles the Simple in 916 equipped the newly endowed chapel of the royal palace.
