Salcha is a place of the Fairbanks North Star Borough in the U.S. state of Alaska.

Geography

Salcha is located at 64 ° 31'14 " north latitude and 147 ° 0'41 " west longitude and is drained by the Salcha River. The nearest large city is Fairbanks, which is 60 km in a north -westerly direction. Through the village leads the Richardson Highway.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1898 as Salchaket, which means in the language of the aborigines " mouth of the Salcha ". 1904, the site was designated as Saltshatsheg and now called Salcha, based on the eponymous river.
