Salgótarján

Salgótarján [ ʃɒlgo ː tɒrja ː n] ( German rarely Schalgotarjan, Slovak Šalgov - Tarjany ) is the county seat of Nógrád and lies in northern Hungary near the Slovak border.

Origin of the name

The name Salgótarján formed by the combination of Salgó and Tarjan. Salgó called the castle nearby; Salgó says on altungarisch " shiny ".

Tarjan was Prince of the Magyars einsiedel ends, and the name itself means ( altung. ) " Prince ".

History

The village already existed in the Middle Ages, but there is little information. Presumably, the settlement was then a small village, or two small villages, Salgó and Tarjan.

The Salgó castle ( on the Petőfi wrote a poem ) was built in the 13th century. The first church dates from the 13th century.

The first mention was kenyeretlen Tarjan (Eng. " unrewarding Tarjan "). This is likely a reference to the then poor conditions.

In the 17th century, the village had 247 inhabitants, but after the siege of the castle Fülek 1682 the settlements were completely depopulated. Tarjan remained ten years uninhabited. The residents then returned slowly. The village remained for a long time without meaning.

1850 lignite was found near the village. The village was important through the early mining and developed rapidly. A number of new factories and companies were founded, such as 1860, the Salgótarjáni Kőszénbánya Rt ( Salgótarján lignite AG), which is one of the most important companies in Hungary was then. The merger of two companies created in 1881 Rimamurány - Salgótarjáni Vasmű Rt ( ferrous Rimamurány - Salgótarján AG), which was the second largest company in the steel industry in the country at that time.

The new factories, many workers came to the city. Thus, the ethnic proportions of the city have changed.

1922 Salgótarján became a town. The first mayor was Dr. Kálmán forester.

1950 moved the seat of the county of Nógrád Balassaqyarmat after Salgótarján. In the same year Baglyasalja was incorporated, and later as Zagyvapálfalva (1961 ), Zagyvaróna (1973 ), Somoskő and Somoskőújfalu (1977).

Through a referendum on 4 September 2004 in SOMOSKOUJFALU this place was 2006 again independently.

1994 got Salgótarján the county rank.

Economy

In the city's economy mining operations has played a very important role for a long time. This situation changed at the beginning of the 1970s. Since then, engineering and light industry are predominant. The steel production, the city has a 100 -year tradition, is virtually completely disappeared.

Glass production was also an important industry of the city, but in the early 1990s, most farms have been closed.

In the city is currently an industrial park to find.
