Saliamonas Banaitis

Saliamonas Banaitis ( born July 15, 1866 in Vaitiekupiai (now Rajongemeinde Šakiai ) volost Sintautai, Russia, † May 4, 1933 in Kaunas ) was a Lithuanian politician, printer and publisher.

Life

He grew up in a family of farmers. From 1880 he taught at the high school Marijampolė. He graduated from the courses of accounting and commerce in Petersburg. From 1902 he lived in Lithuania, from 1904 in Kaunas. In 1905 he founded his own printing, the first Lithuanian in the city after the ban on the Lithuanian pressure in Russia at the time. From 1905 to 1914 they printed 1.3 million copies of books and 1.7 million copies of the newspaper numbers. December 1905 he participated in the Didysis Vilniaus Seimas. In 1917, he was selected in the Conference Vilnius Lietuvos Taryba member. In 1918 he was co-founder and board member of the Bank Lietuvos bankas prekybos ir Pramonės, from 1919 head of the district Šakiai. In 1919 he founded the Confederation Lietuvos žemdirbių sąjunga. From 1920 he lived in Kaunas and was head of Kaunas railway station. From 1926 he studied law at the Law Faculty of the Lietuvos universitetas.

His grave is in the cemetery Petrašiūnai.

In 1997, a street was renamed after Romainiai S. Banaitis.
