Salmo fibreni

Salmo fibreni is a species of fish in the salmon family (Salmonidae ), which is endemic in the Lago di Posta Fibreno and its tributaries in central Italy.

Features

Salmo fibreni reaches a length of up to 19.5 cm. Even adult animals retain the youth drawing, consisting of seven to eleven large dark vertical bars. The flanks carry 15 to 20 round, eye -like reddish to dark brown spots that reach about the size of the eye.

Way of life

The spawning season is in December and January, and therefore before that of the local Mediterranean brown trout (Salmo cetti ). The eggs are placed in the vicinity of the water sources.

Threat

Salmo fibreni is listed in the Red List of endangered species as threatened ( Vulnerable ), as their habitat is considered to be threatened.
