Salmo macedonicus

Salmo macedonicus is a species of fish in the salmon family (Salmonidae ), which is endemic in the upper part of the Vardar with the exception of the Crna Reka in Macedonia.

Features

Salmo macedonicus reaches a length of up to 40 centimeters. Lie on the flanks, especially in the front area, numerous large, eyes like dark wine - red spots, the center of which is sometimes blackish. Large animals with more than 30 centimeters in length have three vertical black bars on the back body portion which can be clearly seen during stress. The dorsal fin has a few weak wine-red spots. In animals from the area of ​​Doduna and Basnica the front spots are black on the body.

Way of life

Little is known about the habits of the species. It settles fast flowing waters and is often found in rapids and waterfalls.
