Salmo pallaryi

Salmo pallaryi is an extinct species of fish in the salmon family (Salmonidae ), in the 2395 m high Aguelmame Sidi Ali ( Aguelmame Lake) was endemic in the Moroccan Atlas Mountains.

Features

Salmo pallaryi reached a body length of 24 cm. The body was colored dark brown to blackish and had no screening for. The snout was high and narrow. The anal fins have 12 to 13 (rarely 14) supporting elements ( Pterygiophoren ). With regard to the nature of the orbital bone ( Circumorbitale ) the nature showed Ähnlichenkeiten with Salmo ohridanus.

Extinction

Salmo pallaryi disappeared after 1934 Carp in Aguelmame Sidi Ali were exposed. Since 1938, the species is considered extinct. There are only two specimens in the Museum collections.
