Salomon Mayer von Rothschild

Salomon Meyer Freiherr von Rothschild ( born September 9, 1774 Frankfurt am Main, † July 28, 1855 in Paris) was an Austrian entrepreneur and banker. As the second son of the dynasty founder Mayer Amschel Rothschild and his wife Gutle Schnapper (1753-1849) Salomon became the real founder of the Austrian branch of the Rothschild family.

Life and work

Salomon Rothschild was opened in 1821, a bank in Vienna, from 1855 to his son, Anselm Salomon von Rothschild, the Creditanstalt. Over time, he became a leading financier of the Habsburg Empire, which was he who guided a total of 200 million guilders to credit. The couple Caroline Stern and Salomon Meyer Baron Rothschild had two children

  • Anselm Salomon von Rothschild (1803-1874) married Charlotte von Rothschild ( 1807-1859 ). She was the first daughter of the banker Nathan Mayer in London resident of Rothschild ( 1777-1836 ). This couple had eight children.
  • Betty de Rothschild (1805-1886) married in 1824, who resided in Paris banker James de Rothschild, the younger brother of Solomon.
