Genealogy of the Rothschild family

The Frankfurt banking dynasty Rothschild dominated the European financial market in the 19th century. Its founder was Mayer Amschel Rothschild. His five sons were knighted in 1817 and raised in 1822 in the Austrian baron. They formed in foreign metropolises important branches of the dynasty.

Rothschild's first child was a daughter, Jeanette Schönche. She married in 1795 the banker Benedict Moses Worms and had with him a son, Solomon Benedict. Your great-great -great-great - great-granddaughter, Bettina Rheims, is today a well-known photographer.

While the eldest son Rothschild, Amschel Mayer Rothschild, the paternal parent company in Frankfurt took over, started the second son, Salomon is the guesthouse in Austria. Salomon and his wife Caroline had two children, Anselm and Betty. Betty married at the age of 19 her Parisian Uncle James, Anselm with his 23 London niece Charlotte. Anselm and Charlotte had two daughters, both married with Neapolitan cousins, and a son, Nathaniel Meyer, who was childless.

Rothschild's son Nathan went to England, first to Manchester and then to London. The bank NM Rothschild & Sons was founded by him still exists today. Nathan married Hannah Barent Cohen in 1806, with whom he had seven children ( four sons and three daughters ). Except for Hanna Mayer all children married within the family. Nathan's grandson of the same became the first Baron Rothschild.

Kalman, who later Carl Mayer Rothschild was called, opened the banking house of the Rothschilds in Naples CM de Rothschild e figli. With his wife Adelheid he had a daughter and four sons. They married within the family. Mayer Carl and Wilhelm Carl took over in 1855 the management of the Frankfurt house, the middle son Adolph led the office in Naples until its closure in 1863.

Paris branch: descendants of Jacob Rothschild

Rothschild's youngest son Jakob took over the business in Paris. He married his own niece Betty and had with her five children, four of which in turn married within the family. Jacob later called himself James de Rothschild.
