Saloum River

The Saloum is a river in the West African country of Senegal.

Geography

The Saloum is centrally located in Senegal, Gambia north of the state. The river flows over a length of approximately 250 kilometers through the country and is down to a length of 112 kilometers, for seagoing vessels of less than 2000 GRT navigable. It flows through the regions of Tambacounda and Kaolack, and thereby also the provincial capital of Kaolack. Then it flows into the region Fatick together with the Sine in a river delta in the Atlantic Ocean. There is the National Park Delta du Saloum. This river delta is recognized by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. To be able to drive on the Saloum by a ship, had to be crossed in the delta a sand bank (cash ) from the draft of the ship and on how much water only at certain times of the day was passable as a function - Stand 1956/57.
