Salvador Zubirán

Zubirán Salvador Anchondo ( born December 23, 1898 in Cusihuiriachi / Chihuahua; † 10 June 1998) was an eminent Mexican physicians and nutritionists.

Biography

Zubirán, son of José María and María Zubirán Anchondo, completed in 1913, the university entrance at the Escuela Nacional Preparatoria. In 1915 he began his medical studies at the Escuela Nacional de Medicina of the Universidad Nacional de México ( UNAM later ) and was established in April 1923 surgeon. From 1924 to 1925 he studied at Harvard University.

Teaching activities

At the Escuela Nacional de Medicina, he taught as a professor from 1925 to 1927 Therapeutics, 1928-1933 Medical and clinical propaedeutic and 1934-1945 Clinical Medicine. After the university 's Faculty of Medicine UNAM was, he taught at this until 1966, was professor emeritus of medical school since 1967.

Public offices

He held several public offices, was from 1931 to 1934 Head of the Department of Food and Beverage in the health department, was from 1935 to 1937 a member of the study commission by the Federal Executive ( Presidencia de la República ), 1937 Head of the Autonomous Department of Social and Child Welfare ( Departamento de Asistencia social Autónomo e Infantil ), the Ministry of Health ( Secretaría de Salud today ) 1938-1939 operating officer from 1940 to 1943 and Under Secretary for Subsecretario de social work. Zubirán founded in 1946, the National Nutrition Institute Instituto Nacional de la Nutrición that now bears his name and which he was director until 1980. In 1946 he became president of the Academia Nacional de Medicina. From 1946 to 1948 he was rector of the UNAM and also there from 1958 to 1962 in the University Governing Council. From 1964 to 1980 he was a member of the Hauptgesundheitsrat ( Consejo de Salubridad General ), where he was later 1983-1988 also emeritus consultant. From 1970 to 1982 he was the spokesman for the national maintenance program of the Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología and 1983-1991 Advisor to the Ministry of Health. He was also President of the Sixth Pan-American Congress of Endocrinology, founder and honorary president of the Sociedad Mexicana de Nutrición y endocrinologia, President of the Ninth International Congress of Nutrition and Ehrenpräsidentder Medical Association of the Instituto Nacional de la Nutrición.

He was since 1967 Honorary Member of the Academia Nacional de Medicina, Sociedad Colombiana de honorary member of the Gastroenterología, the Sociedad de Gastroenterología del Uruguay, Sociedad Peruana de endocrinologia and president of the Sociedad Mexicana de Geografía y Estadística.

Zubirán belonged to a wide variety of scientific associations to, was from 1961 to 1967 governor of the Mexican delegation from the American College of Physicians, was a member of the expert committee of the World Health Organization ( WHO) for the fields of nutrition and diabetes, was a member of the Advisory Committee for Medical Research of the Organización Panamericana de la Salud and member of the Executive Committee of the population Council. He was also in the Asociación Mexicana de Gastroenterología, in the American Diabetes Association and the American Gastroenterological Association.

According to him, among other things, the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán ( INCMNSZ, INNSZ ) is named.
