Samuel Jacob "Sam" Bradford ( born November 8, 1987 in Oklahoma City ) is an American football player at the position of quarterback. He plays for the St. Louis Rams in the National Football League ( NFL). The 1.93m Bradford is the first Native American to win the Heisman Trophy. He was awarded the 2010 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.
Career
Is Bradford, a member of the Cherokee Nation, played as a teenager both American football and basketball, but focused after shooting to the University of Oklahoma in football. At the local sports team, the Sooners, he immediately became the starting quarterback and becoming the first Native American since Sonny Sixkiller, who played in a Division I team quarterback. The Sooners broke Bradford various college records: most complete passes in a game (22 ), most passing yards in a game ( 468 ), most litters at a stretch without interception (169 ) and most successful throws ( 606). In 2008, he won the Heisman Trophy and became the first Native American to win this trophy.
The NFL Draft 2010 Bradford was selected by the St. Louis Rams at position 1 and immediately became the new starting quarterback of the Rams. Despite a below-average offensive line that allowed 34 Sacks against him ( fifth- highest league value ), he threw 18 touchdowns with 15 interceptions and won with 354 successful litters ( seventh- highest league value ). For these achievements, Bradford was elected to the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Oklahoma City honored him on 13 January 2011 with a " Sam Bradford Day".
Private life
Bradford is the son of Martha and Kent Bradford, who played college football. He is too one-sixteenth Cherokee through his great-grandmother, Susie Walkingstick and is officially registered as a member of the Cherokee Nation. In addition, he is a practicing Christian.
