Sam Mangwana ( born February 21, 1945 in Kinshasa ) is a angolanischstämmiger musicians from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Biography

Mangwana grew up in Kinshasa, where he heard the music of foreign artists who appeared there. Especially the music of Cuban artists influenced not only him but the entire development of Congolese music. In 1963 he was discovered by the bandleader Tabu Ley Rochereau. Previously, he had been a singer in a school band, from then on he was a member of Soukous band African Fiesta.

Later he worked on several successful bands, first with co-founded his own festival of Maquisards. This formation broke up in 1969. He then played from 1972 to 1975 with TP OK Jazz by Franco and then moved for a short time to Tabu Ley's African Jazz. As of 1976, he launched a solo career and was accompanied by the African All Stars.

He lived and worked out in Kinshasa, among others, in Brazzaville, Lagos, Accra and Abidjan. Because of the knowledge gained in the different regional styles of African pop music he has dealt with the synthesis towards a pan-African pop music, as " the black African music, apart from some regional variants, largely uniform " was.

For the title Mia Angola, the Angolan government gave him in 1975 the title of National Artist.
